Finishing Types

 
Honed:
Definition:
A semi-smooth Stone finish. Honed finish has a matte or satin finish for a softer, more subdued look, achieved by filling the pores of the rough saw-cut surface through treating and grinding the surface using some polishing abrasive stones stopping just short of the last stage of polishing.
Applications (Usage): Walls & Floors (Exterior).
 
Polished:
Definition:
A shiny, mirror-like finish resulting from filling the pores of the rough saw-cut surface through treating and grinding the surface using some polishing abrasive stones.
Marble, Limestone & Granite slabs are polished by large polishing machines, which progressively grind the rough saw-cut surface giving it a spectacular mirror-like finish.

Brushed:
Definition:
An antique stone finish produced by continuous scrubbing of the surface with soft ended wire brushes.

Split Face:
Definition:
Split face surfaces are those which are left natural after manual splitting of Stone along planar surfaces. This finish shows the actual natural earthy tone of the Stone.

Tumbled:
Definition:
Tumbling is vibrating the tiles with some special stones to give the surface a textured and antique look whereby the edges are rounded and imperfect.

Flamed:

Bush Hammering:
Definition:

Facial Chiseling:
Definition:
This surface is produced manually by using chisel and hammer and is used mainly in wall claddings and facades.

Tooled:

A Stone finish with parallel grooves cut into it. Available with 1-4 grooves to the inch (254mm), the finish may be executed by hand (hand-tooled) or machine (machine-tooled).

Acid Treated:
Definition:
Stone surfaces are treated by acids to give them a spectacular antique look.
